Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your trek begins at Lemosho Gate (2,100m) on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After registration and a briefing, you drive to the trailhead and start hiking through dense montane rainforest. The trail is peaceful and rich with birdlife and colobus monkeys. After 3–4 hours of gentle trekking, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m), also known as Big Tree Camp, for dinner and your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail climbs steadily into the moorland zone. The vegetation becomes more open, revealing wide views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak in the distance. The hike takes about 5–6 hours as you gain significant altitude. You overnight at Shira 1 Camp (3,610m), where temperatures begin to drop and the landscape becomes more dramatic.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Today is a shorter acclimatization day. You trek across the expansive Shira Plateau with gentle ascents and stunning panoramic views. The trail passes unique alpine vegetation, including giant lobelias and senecios. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). In the afternoon, you may take a short acclimatization walk to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
This is a key acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” strategy. You ascend gradually toward Lava Tower (4,630m), where you stop for lunch and experience higher altitude. Afterward, you descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The day takes 6–8 hours and offers incredible views of glaciers and the Barranco Valley. The descent helps improve acclimatization before the summit push.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The day begins with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall. Although steep in places, it is non-technical and manageable with guidance from your crew. Once at the top, you enjoy spectacular views before continuing along rolling terrain toward Karanga Camp (4,035m). The trek takes about 4–5 hours and allows extra time to rest and prepare for higher elevation.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today’s hike is shorter but steeper as you move into the alpine desert zone. After 3–4 hours, you reach Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for your summit attempt. You have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the midnight ascent. Your guides will conduct a detailed summit briefing to ensure you are fully prepared.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate
Summit day begins shortly after midnight. You climb steadily under headlamps toward Stella Point (5,756m), then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is a remarkable achievement. After celebrating and taking photos, you descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Later in the morning, you complete your final descent to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel.
