Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Your adventure begins at Machame Gate (1,800m) after registration and a briefing from your mountain crew. The trek starts through dense rainforest filled with giant ferns, towering trees, and colobus monkeys. The trail can be muddy, so trekking poles are helpful. After 5–7 hours of hiking, you reach Machame Camp (3,000m), where you enjoy dinner and your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After breakfast, the trail leaves the rainforest and enters the moorland zone. The landscape opens up with giant lobelias and dramatic views of Kibo Peak. The hike becomes steeper as you ascend to the Shira Plateau. After 4–6 hours, you arrive at Shira Camp (3,840m), where you can relax and enjoy spectacular sunset views over Mount Meru.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
This is an important acclimatization day. You hike gradually toward Lava Tower (4,630m), gaining altitude slowly to help your body adjust. After lunch near Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). This “climb high, sleep low” strategy improves acclimatization. The day takes about 6–8 hours and offers stunning views of the Barranco Valley and glaciers above.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The day begins with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall. Though steep in sections, it is not technical and offers incredible panoramic views. After reaching the top, the trail continues with ups and downs through alpine desert terrain. You arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m) after 4–5 hours, giving you extra time to rest and acclimatize.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today’s trek is shorter but steeper as you head toward Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for your summit attempt. The landscape becomes rocky and sparse. After 3–4 hours of hiking, you arrive at camp, have an early dinner, and rest. Guides will brief you on the summit climb, which begins around midnight.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit day begins shortly after midnight. Using headlamps, you climb steadily toward Stella Point (5,756m) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable moment. After photos and celebration, you descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m). This is the longest and most challenging day, taking 10–14 hours.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). The hike takes about 3–4 hours. At the gate, you receive your summit certificate and say goodbye to your mountain team. You are then transferred back to your hotel to celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro adventure.
